For many years our company has carried out works to listed buildings
such as Churchs, Town Halls etc. The vast majority
tend to be natural slate, Westmoreland or Welsh slate
with Lead to box gutters, valleys and various structural features.
We carry time served slaters capable of Westmoreland random slating,
which is a dying trade.
When complete, a newly recovered roof with second hand slate should
look as original and not stand out as being new.
The
Conservation project below was completed by O'Connor Roofing Services

As you can see from this picture this roof looks original, The lead
Cheeks to the steeple have been renewed. Original second hand slate
has been used to keep the look of the building. The use of coloured
mortar for ridge tiles will hide the fact that they are newly rebeded.
A common mistake is to use standard mortar for ridges, but on completion
they are clearly newly bedded thus spoiling the look of the building.
